Discover What’s New Upstairs

You may have noticed some of the new and improved spaces on the Library’s first floor, including our lobby café and play space. But have you explored what’s new upstairs?

We’ve added seven study rooms that seat one or two people, complementing our larger study rooms and making it easier to find a quiet place to work, study, or meet. Since the new rooms opened in July, the Library has accommodated more than 560 additional study room reservations on the second floor each month, resulting in an increase of over 65% in the
first two months.

You’ll also find new seating throughout the second floor, including larger tables for group work, a comfortable couch, and high-top seating along the windows in the quiet study room, where you can take in the great view of Jackman Park.

“We want the second floor to feel like a place where you can relax with a good book, explore an interest, get some work done, or simply discover something new,” says Deputy Director of Library Services Linda Sawyer. “We hope these improvements give residents even more reasons to visit the Library.”

New book displays, curated by our librarians, make it easier to discover hidden gems from second-floor collections, including cookbooks, biographies, crafting, DIY, and more. And a new self-checkout station means you can browse, check out a book, and find a cozy spot to read without going downstairs.

While you’re exploring upstairs, you won’t want to miss these hidden gems:

  • Local Author Collection: Discover books written by your friends and neighbors.
  • Local History Room: Explore Glenview history and see the stained-glass Jackman Bear.
  • World Language Collection: Find books in Korean, Polish, Russian, Spanish, plus resources for English language learners.
  • Magazine Collection: New display boxes make it easier to spot your favorite magazine or find something new.

“We hope you will check out the second floor the next time you visit the Library," says Adult Services Collections Manager Kim Comerford. "With expanded collections on your favorite nonfiction topics, new display tables, and improved signage, it's easier than ever to browse and find something you didn’t know you were looking for."
