Eligibility
Individuals who live, own, or lease property within incorporated Glenview are eligible for full privilege library cards at no cost. These cards are renewable every three years.
You will need a valid Illinois State photo ID or a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card with your current address.
If your photo ID is not current, please provide a recent:
- Utility or property tax bill
- Bank statement or checkbook
- Mortgage or lease document
- Illinois motor vehicle or voter registration card
Children under age 16 need to be present along with their parent/guardian to open a library card.
Adults living outside incorporated Glenview and residing within Glenbrook School District #225, or the Glenview Public Library is the closest library to the individual’s principal residence, are eligible for full privilege non-resident library cards for a fee. The fee covers all family members living in the home. These cards are renewable every year.
Non-Resident Homeowner
- The Library will charge a non-resident fee equal to the cost paid by residents of incorporated Glenview by using the tax bill method established by the Illinois State Library.
- You will need your second installment property tax bill for staff to calculate the cost of your library card and a valid Illinois State photo ID or a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.
Non-Resident Renters
- Illinois State law also provides that the annual fee for a non-resident renter is 15% of the renter’s monthly rent.
- You will need to bring your lease and a current rent receipt or a cancelled rent check and a valid Illinois State photo ID or a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card.
Children under the age of 18 and living outside incorporated Glenview and residing within Glenbrook School District #225, or the Glenview Public Library is the closest library to the individual’s principal residence, are eligible to receive a Glenview Library card at no cost. These cards are usable by the child only and are renewable every year.
- Children under age 16 need to be present along with their parent/guardian to open a library card.
- A valid Illinois State photo ID or a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card with current address.
Individuals living outside incorporated Glenview and residing within Glenbrook School District #225 may receive a library card from a private endowment fund if the applicant can establish financial need. These cards are renewable every year.

Veterans living outside incorporated Glenview with a service-connected disability of at least 70%, who are exempt from paying property taxes on their primary residence, are eligible for full privilege library card at no cost. These cards are renewable every year.
- You will need to bring documentation from the county where you reside that indicates your residence is exempt from paying property taxes.
- A valid Illinois State photo ID or a Firearm Owner’s Identification card.
Also eligible are:
- The unmarried surviving spouse of a veteran who has previously qualified for this exemption prior to his/her death.
- The unmarried surviving spouse of a service member killed in the line of duty.
Businesses located within incorporated Glenview are eligible for a library card at no cost. These cards are renewable every year.
- The top administrator must present a signed letter on company letterhead requesting a business library card. Please include:
- Name of the business
- Business address
- Name and contact information of top administrator
- Please provide a current property tax bill or lease.
- A valid Illinois State photo ID or a Firearm Owner’s Identification Card with your current address.
The library card is opened in the business’s name, with the company’s top administrator being financially responsible for all account activity.
Businesses located outside incorporated Glenview may purchase Business Library Cards for an annual fee calculated on the same basis as for non-resident taxpayers.
