Parking Garage Waterproofing Project Begins September 21

Starting the week of September 21, the Library will begin a necessary repair project to replace the waterproofing membrane beneath the concrete at the west entrance.

After approximately 15 years, the existing membrane has deteriorated, allowing water to leak into the parking garage and causing damage to the building. To make these repairs, crews must remove the existing concrete, install a new waterproofing membrane, and replace the concrete.

The project is expected to last approximately eight weeks. During construction, there may be temporary impacts to the west entrance, parking lot, and parking garage. Work will also create noise, dust, and vibrations, especially during concrete demolition.

To avoid the greatest disruption, patrons may wish to visit after construction ends for the day, around 3 PM, or use the Drive-Up Window to pick up and return materials.

Because this is an exterior project, dates may change due to weather conditions. Please check our website and follow us on social media for updates.

Phase 1: September 21–October 7

Dates are subject to change.

  • Bike racks and benches near the west entrance are removed. Bike racks are available near the east entrance.
  • A construction barrier is installed around the south portion of the project area.
  • Significant noise, dust, and vibrations are expected, particularly during concrete demolition.
  • The west entrance is expected to remain open.
  • The parking lot is expected to remain open, but the two lanes near the entrance are reduced to one.
  • The sidewalk in front of the Friends Used Bookstore leading toward Glenview Road is closed.

Phase 2: October 12–November 13

Dates are subject to change.

  • A construction barrier is installed around the north portion of the project area.
  • Significant noise, dust, and vibrations are expected, particularly during concrete demolition.
  • The west entrance is expected to remain open for most of Phase 2, with possible temporary closures.
  • The parking lot is expected to remain open.
  • The parking garage entrance may be periodically closed.

We apologize for the inconvenience this work may cause. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we complete these necessary repairs to protect the Library building and parking garage.
