Celebrate National Library Card Month with Your Little One!

It is an incredibly memorable moment when your child gets their very own library card. And there’s no better time to get one than September, because it’s National Library Card Month!

A library card opens a world of resources and activities to explore both at home and in the library, and it can also provide an opportunity for your child to take ownership of something very special. It’s exciting to learn that you get to choose the items you’re interested in, scan your card at the check-out machine all by yourself, then take the items home to enjoy and care for.

When we offer opportunities for children to make decisions, we provide them with ways to foster their sense of autonomy and independence. Even when these experiences don’t go as expected, they are important learning opportunities for young children to navigate their thoughts and regulate their emotions.

Stop by the Circulation Desk today to get a library card, and don’t forget to visit the Youth Services Department for a special library card holder and take a picture with...a giant GPL Card!
