Purpose
The Glenview Public Library uses its social media sites to connect with the community, promote its services and resources, and share information related to educational, cultural, and recreational interests.
Policy
- The Library respects differing viewpoints and welcomes posts and messages on its social media. All posts are monitored regularly and reviewed for content and compliance with
this policy by Library staff and administration. The Library reserves the right to remove any messages, tags, or postings that violate this social media policy. This policy is not intended to restrict communications or actions protected or required by state or federal law. - The Library reserves the right to take action, including the loss of library privileges, against any person posting content on any Library forum that violates this policy or federal, state, and local laws. Violations may result in actions including suspension or revocation of library privileges.
- The Library, its employees, and Trustees are not responsible or liable for any damages, direct or indirect, resulting from unauthorized content posted by any person in any forum.
- All content posted on Library social media sites is subject to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and the State of Illinois record retention laws.
- A comment posted by a member of the public on a Library social media site is the opinion of the poster only, and publication of a comment does not imply endorsement of, or agreement by, the Library, nor do the comments necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of the Library.
- The Library reserves the right to deny access to Library social media sites for any individual who repeatedly violates this social media policy, at any time and without prior notice.
- All comments posted to any Library social media site are bound by the social media platform’s terms of use and the Library reserves the right to report any violation of the platform’s terms of use to the platform.
- Users who enter private or personal information on a Library social media site do at their own risk, and the Library is not responsible for any damages resulting from the public display of, or failure to remove, private or personal information.
- This policy and terms of use may be amended from time to time, without further notice.
Guidelines
- The Library’s social media policy applies to all people, whether or not they are registered as Glenview Public Library cardholders.
- The following are examples of the types of content that are prohibited by this policy and may be subject to removal by Library staff:
- Obscene, sexual, or pornographic content or language.
- Comments or material that promote discrimination against constitutionally protected classes of persons
- Defamatory statements
- Threats to any person
- Illegal activities or conduct
- Commercial solicitation/spam
- Hyperlinks to material unrelated to the subject or discussion
- Advocacy for or against a political candidate or campaign
- Inducement or incitement to engage in any activity that violates federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, or regulations
- Violations of copyright, trademark rights, or other intellectual property rights
