Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we charge a service fee?
We contracted with a vendor to provide this service through the Secretary of State. The $9.50 service fee represents the cost associated with the vendor.
Can I purchase a license plate sticker for a family member?
A family member can only purchase a sticker if the address listed on their ID is the same as what is listed on the vehicle’s registration.
Can I change the address on my registration?
Yes, you can only change the address on your registration to match the address listed on your driver’s license. If the address on your driver’s license is incorrect, we cannot change the address on your registration, but we can still issue the sticker.
What do I need to bring to renew a license plate?
To renew a license plate, please bring your current vehicle registration card or postcard sent by the Secretary of State. This contains your Registration ID, Pin, and Plate Number, which are needed for renewal. If you do not have a Registration ID and Pin, the vehicle’s VIN number is required. Please also be prepared to show your driver’s license.
What is the difference between personalized and vanity plates?
Personalized plates have letters followed by numbers. Vanity plates have up to three numbers only or up to seven letters only. There are added fees for personalized plates and vanity plates.
