Freedom of Information Act (FOIA)

The Glenview Public Library strives to keep its operations transparent to the public through compliance with the Illinois Freedom of Information Act.


I. Certain types of information maintained by the Library are exempt from inspection and copying. However, the following types or categories of records are maintained under our control:

II. You may request the information and the records available to the public in the following manner:

  • All notices and other communications relating to a request to inspect, copy, or certify public records, all requests for copies of the FOIA Rules, and all requests for any other information relating to the Library’s implementation of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act must be directed to:

  • FOIA records requests can also be made using this form.
  • You must indicate whether you are requesting records for a commercial purpose.
  • You must specify the records requested to be disclosed for inspection or to be copied. If you desire that any records be certified, you must specify which ones.
  • To reimburse us our actual costs for reproducing and certifying (if requested) the records, you will be charged the following fees:
    • No fees shall be charged for the first 50 pages of black and white letter or legal sized copies.
    • $.15 per page for additional black and white letter or legal sized copies.
    • $.50 per page for color letter or legal sized copies.
    • $1.00 for each certified document.
    • Photographs, plats, maps, specifications, and other documents greater than 8 x 14 will be reproduced at the market rate.
    • Electronic records will be formatted subject to reimbursement for costs of recording medium. Color copies or copies in a size other than letter or legal shall be reimbursed at actual costs.

The office will respond to a written request within five (5) working days or sooner if possible. An extension of an additional five (5) working days may be necessary to properly respond.

Records may be inspected or copied. If inspected, an employee must be present throughout the inspection.

The place and times where the records will be available are as follows: Monday-Friday 9 AM-4:30 PM, Glenview Public Library, Business Office.


III . A brief description of our public body is as follows:

  • Our purpose is to foster a more connected, informed, and engaged community by making knowledge, information, and discovery accessible to all people.
  • The Glenview Public Library is organized into the following departments: Adult Services, Youth Services, Innovation Services, Communications, Business and Administration, Material Services, Operations and Facilities, and Information Technology. Each department is led by a Department Director who reports to the Executive Library Director. The Executive Library Director reports to the Library Board of Trustees.
  • The total amount of the Library’s operating budget for FY2024 is: $9,136,068.
  • Funding sources are property and personal property replacement taxes, state and federal grants, fees, charges, and donations. Tax levies are:
    o General Operating Expenditures
    o Debt Service (for bond and interest payments)
  • The office is located at this address: 1930 Glenview Road, Glenview, IL 60025.
  • We have approximately the following number of persons employed:
    • Full-time: 50
    • Part-time: 54
  • The following board exercises control over our policies and procedures: The Glenview Public Library Board of Library Trustees, which meets monthly on the 3rd Thursday of each month, 6:30 p.m., at the Library. Its members are: Tom Blanchard, President; Sara Spitz, Vice President; M. David Johnson, Secretary; Carol Schmitt; Kathy Vega; and Ruth Rosenblum.
  • We are required to report and be answerable for our operations to: Illinois State Library, Springfield, Illinois. Its members are: State Librarian, Alexi Giannoulias (Secretary of State); Director of State Library, and various other staff.
