Did you know that children start developing skills for reading at birth and that caregivers are a child’s first teacher? One of the best ways to help jumpstart your child’s learning is to make reading a habit, and there’s no better way for that than the library’s 1000 Books Before Kindergarten challenge.
1000 Books Before Kindergarten is a self-guided program for ages birth-6 where caregivers read 1,000 books to their child before they enter kindergarten. After signing up, participants can keep track of their reading with a paper log and special stamper or through Beanstack.
Here at GPL, participants check in at the Youth Services desk after each 100 books read and receive a small prize! Some of our favorite prizes include items to invite more play like bubble wands, play dough, sunglasses, and more.
You can find out more about 1000 Books Before Kindergarten on the challenge’s webpage, or by asking a librarian today. Register by visiting the Youth Services Desk or through Beanstack. We can’t wait to see you join the challenge!
