Have you visited Little Bear Garden at Gallery Park and seen the Library’s StoryWalk? Do you have questions about how it got started or how we make it happen? Are you a fun fact collector? Then this blog post is for you!
StoryWalk started at Glenview Public Library in the fall of 2011, with Leaves by David Ezra Stein as the book selection. Beth (left), a Youth Services Librarian, and Barbara (right), Department Head of Youth Services (pictured below), led the charge for setting up a StoryWalk for the first time.
The Glenview Park District has been an amazing partner to help us make our StoryWalk dreams come true. They’ve hosted our StoryWalk since the beginning! The original stands (pictured below) were upgraded in 2019 to be more durable and they’ve been appreciated by thousands of visitors.
A lot of work has to happen to make StoryWalk. First, our Youth Services Librarians choose a book to feature every season. Then Diane, our StoryWalk specialist, gets two copies of the book and carefully cuts the book apart to make the StoryWalk pages. It takes five to six hours to make the pages!
2025 marks our fourteenth year of StoryWalk. Over the years, we have featured 49 total books! Some favorites include: Rain by Linda Ashman, Fry Bread by Kevin Maillard, Me & Mama by Cozbi Cabrera, We Laugh Alike / Juntos nos reímos by Carmen T. Bernier-Grand, and It Began With Lemonade by Gideon Sterer.
Make sure to stop by for the summer selection: Summer is Here by Renee Watson, (pictured above)!
