Fun Classroom Materials for Fall!

Working on fall lesson plans? The Library is here to help! Here are some of our favorite fall-themed books, activities, and more!

Books

Whether you’re reading about apples, pumpkins, leaves, the farm, or fall in general, there’s something for you in our Favorite Fall Classroom Reads booklist. Or we’ll be happy to put together a fall themed Book Bag for your classroom based on whatever theme you’re learning about.

Fall Activities

  1. Go outside and do a fall I SPY. Ask the children if they can find fall items (acorns, leaves, squirrels, etc.).
  2. Collect leaves from outside for the children to build their own leaf people just like in Lois Ehlert’s book Leaf Man.
  3. Study the life cycle of an apple. Cut an apple in half to show the seeds to your children. Afterwards, taste test various kinds of apples together.
  4. Use natural materials for art supplies. Use leaves to make leaf rubbings, use sticks as paintbrushes, use rocks and acorns to make stamped patterns.
  5. After reading It’s Fall by Renée Kurilla, make a word cloud together of all the things that your children like to do during the fall season.

Five Little Acorns

Five little acorns sitting in a tree

Along came Squirrel as hungry as can be!

The Leaves Are Falling Down

(Tune: The Farmer in the Dell)

The leaves are falling down (make a falling motion with hands)

The leaves are falling down (make a falling motion with hands)

Red, yellow, gold, and brown

The leaves are falling down (make a falling motion with hands)

Way Up High in the Apple Tree

Way up high in the apple tree (stretch arms up high)

I saw two apples looking at me (hold up two fingers)

I shook that tree as hard as I could (make a shaking motion)

Down came the apples (make a downward motion)

And mmm, they were good (smile and rub stomach)
