We’ve got ten tips to teach your child to be a library lover!
- Make visiting the library part of your regularly scheduled routine. Pick a day as your “library” day, whether that’s once a week or once a month.
- Let your child pick out their own books. Choice helps develop a sense of ownership!
- Take advantage of non-traditional library services, like the Library of Things or Passport Services with your child.
- Treat library books with kindness and care. Make sure to have clean hands when handling library books and keep them away from food and drinks.
- Bring friends to the library and have a playdate.
- Bring used books in good condition to the Used Bookstore for donation.
- Learn the names of the librarians and say hello when you see them.
- Attend a program at the library with your child.
- Play the library’s bi-monthly Scavenger Hunt in Youth Services to become familiar with different areas of the library.
- Check out books and make reading library books part of your daily bedtime routine.
