Teach Your Kids to Be Library Lovers

We’ve got ten tips to teach your child to be a library lover!

  1. Make visiting the library part of your regularly scheduled routine. Pick a day as your “library” day, whether that’s once a week or once a month.
  2. Let your child pick out their own books. Choice helps develop a sense of ownership!
  3. Take advantage of non-traditional library services, like the Library of Things or Passport Services with your child.
  4. Treat library books with kindness and care. Make sure to have clean hands when handling library books and keep them away from food and drinks.
  5. Bring friends to the library and have a playdate.
  6. Bring used books in good condition to the Used Bookstore for donation.
  7. Learn the names of the librarians and say hello when you see them.
  8. Attend a program at the library with your child.
  9. Play the library’s bi-monthly Scavenger Hunt in Youth Services to become familiar with different areas of the library.
  10. Check out books and make reading library books part of your daily bedtime routine.
