Beginning in 1879, Presidents' Day was originally celebrated on February 22 to celebrate the birthday of George Washington. Since 1971, Presidents' Day has been observed on the third Monday of February so that it falls between Abraham Lincoln’s birthday (February 12) and George Washington’s birthday (February 22). Now it honors all who served as President of the United States.
