on your backpacks, jackets, library bag or caps.

A School Year Program

The program is open to children age 2-grade 8. Participants must be Glenview residents or attend a Glenview school. It’s easy to earn badges while reading at your own pace.

The Books & Badges program begins the week following Labor Day and ends the Saturday before Memorial Day. Children who do not complete their log by Memorial Day should hold any incomplete folders until the program resumes in the Fall.

Just follow these simple steps:

Register at the Youth Services Desk

Choose the badge you want to work toward and pick up your reading log

Students may read library books or books from home to meet the requirements for their badge

Parents should initial the log after each book is completed

Bring your completed log to the Youth Services Desk to collect your badge when the required number of books are read

Independent Reader Badges

For children who are reading independently.

Audio Books

Listen to 15 audiobooks or 15 book & audio sets to earn this badge.

Award Books

Read 10 award-winning books to earn this badge. The books may be Caldecott Award, Newbery Award, or other award winners.

Animals

Read 10 books about animals (fiction or non-fiction) to earn this badge. For fiction, look for the animal sticker on the spine.

Biography

Read 10 biographies to earn this badge. The books are located in the non-fiction jBiography section. Ask a librarian if you need assistance.

Character Counts

Read 10 books about any of the 6 character pillars to earn this badge. Suggested booklists are available for each pillar, ask a librarian.

Fantasy

Read 10 fantasy books to earn this badge. Look for the fantasy sticker on the spine.

Folk and Fairy Tale

Read 10 folk and/or fairy tale books to earn this badge. Many of them are located in the non-fiction in the j398s. Ask a librarian if you need assistance.

Historical

Read 10 historical books (fiction or non-fiction) to earn this badge. For fiction, look for the historical sticker on the spine.

Holidays

Read 10 books about holidays (fiction or non-fiction) to earn this badge. Look for the holiday stickers on the spine.

Humor

Read 10 humor books to earn this badge. Look for the humor sticker on the spine.

I Can Read

Perfect for NEW readers, read any 20 books to earn this badge.
